Big Deal Book, August 15, 2017

August 21, 2017

Waiting for the eclipse? Why not take some time to browse the Big Deal Book? It is filled with news, information and resources to help you start the school year successfully. In this edition, you can find ways to Tap Open Resources, Witness the Solar Eclipse, Spot Fake News & More.

Here are a few of our favorites from this edition...be sure to check the full Big Deal Book for more great resources!

OER-based Curricula for Problem-based Learning

In the summer of 2017, Open Up Resources released a problem-based core math program for grades 6–8 to spark student engagement. The full OER-based curriculum is a result of a 21st Century Collaboration Model: the core materials were developed by recognized math education experts and then classroom tested and modified by 175 classroom teachers in six school districts.

Game Testing Fake News Judgment

A free browser-based game called Factitious helps middle school and high school students distinguish between fake news and real journalism. Players indicate if they think an article is fake, or if they believe it is real.

Learning Modules Encouraging Democratic Citizenship

For social studies educators who want to actively engage their students in learning about government, law, economics, or citizenship, The Civic Mirror created by Action-Ed Learning Resources, brings these subjects to life both in class and online.
