Spot Clues to Crack the Case

Historical Scene Investigation (H.S.I.) offers an engaging way for students to investigate history through primary documents and images. H.S.I. presents students with historical cases to “crack.” Each of the 13 cases provides students with clues to analyze in order to form a conclusion to each investigation. The clues for each investigation are in the forms of primary documents and images, as well as secondary sources.

Nurture Leadership Qualities

Girls Thinking Global (GTG) has launched an online professional learning community on edWeb.net to help educators and organizations connect and converse about ways to nurture leadership qualities in adolescent girls and young women. The GTG community will host a series of free webinars to share stories and ideas for initiatives that will make a difference in girls’ lives.

Explore the Art of Conflict

The Newberry Library’s Digital Collections for the Classroom website features primary sources from the Newberry’s holdings, contextual essays, and discussion questions. Share Creative Approaches to Learning

Next Vista works to help students and teachers share creative approaches to learning, and as part of that effort, Next Vista invites educators and students to take part in the Creative Storm educational video contest. To enter, simply put a little creativity into a video teaching any concept one might encounter in elementary, middle, or high school, and keep it to 90 seconds or less. Deadline: December 18, 2015

Learn the Fundamentals of Digital Driving

Just as motorists take driver’s education to learn how to recognize and react to road situations, digital-age students need a course in how to navigate precarious situations online, such as cyberbullying and copyright infringement. That’s what led ISTE to develop the Digital Driver’s License (DDL) project, a free and easy-to-navigate resource that schools or individuals can use to teach and measure digital citizenship proficiency.

Send a Spacecraft into Orbit

Rocket Science 101 is an iPad app offered by NASA to help students understand how rockets work. The app also helps students understand the differences between the four types of rockets most frequently used by NASA. In Rocket Science 101, students can build all four rockets in a jigsaw-like activity and then virtually launch their rockets.

Create Collisions of Tectonic Plates

Geomoto by Gamedesk is an embodied learning experience in which players use their iOS or Android device to create geographic features by pulling, smashing, and grinding tectonic plates together. Players navigate around a planet devoid of geographic features with the express purpose of populating the planet with features of their own creation.

Mingle Visual Art with Science

Art & Science: A Curriculum for K–12 Teachers mines the treasures of The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles to explore the many intersections of the visual arts with scientific disciplines. The curriculum was developed by Getty educators with museum conservators, curators, and scientists, as well as a teacher advisory group. Focusing on the science of art production and conservation, and the scientific skills of investigation and experimentation, the curriculum supports student proficiency in science and visual art by exploring the fascinating territory in which the arts and sciences mingle.
