About the Board

ABOUT THE VSTE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
The Board’s session runs from July 1 - June 30.  A Board member’s term of office is three years with a two consecutive term limit.  After leaving office for a period of one year, a candidate may run for another two consecutive terms.  Five seats will be open as of the end of June. The five nominees receiving the highest number of votes will be named to the Board of Directors.

At the last meeting of each year, the Board elects the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer, for the coming year.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS OF BOARD MEMBERS:

Board Meetings are held in person and using online tools.  The Executive Committee (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer) will have meetings at times when the Board is not scheduled to meet.  The general Board schedule is as follows:

Online Meetings: Generally held in the evening
August, September, November, January, February, April, May

Face to Face: Generally held on Saturdays
October, December (at conference), March, June

Board members will collaboratively decide dates for meetings and calls.

Board members are expected to participate in Board activities.  Such activities include meeting attendance, electronic discussions amongst the Board, and Committee leadership.

Some travel expenses are provided for board members. Expenses during the meetings (meals as appropriate) are generally provided.

This is considered a working board of directors.  In that capacity, the Board, among other items, will set policy and direction for the organization; the Board will carry the banner for the society; and the Board will select, hire, and direct the Executive Director (who will be responsible for the day to day business of the organization).
