Google’s Science Journal transforms students’ mobile devices into a science laboratory, encouraging students to conduct authentic experiments, collect and visualize data, and record observations from the world around them.

Lesson Challenging Assumptions About Others

Facing History and Ourselves offers a lesson that challenges students’ assumptions with curiosity. In the lesson, students practice being thoughtful about fellow citizens’ values, identities, and perspectives by reflecting on a video featuring voices of young people from across the country.

Astronauts Reading Stories to Children from Space

If you’re looking for a way to take story time up a notch with the children in your classroom, why not turn to astronauts? That’s the premise of Story Time from Space, a project from the nonprofit Global Space Education Foundation that features astronauts reading children’s books from the International Space Station.

Tool That Answers Questions Using Experimental AI

Imagine if students could gather thousands of writers in a circle to discuss one question. For example: What is fun about computer programming? Would you advise young people to pursue a career as a musician? How can I stop thinking and fall asleep? Google has a way to convene that kind of forum—in half a second.

Multifaceted Online Maker Program

The Library Journal’s Maker Workshop is a two-week online course designed for librarians and educators interested in overseeing or developing maker-oriented programming for the library. The course content will be relevant to librarians in schools or public libraries who serve various age groups and demographics.

The Miller Center at University of Virginia offers a free teacher- and student-friendly collection of resources that are about all of the US presidents and key public issues of each period.

Minigames to Increase Environmental Awareness

Fighting climate change becomes interactive with the free Cleanopolis VR app for iOS and Android by Groupe EDF. Students learn about CO2 and battle along with Captain Clean in the fight against climate change.

Experimental Extensions to Scratch

The Scratch team in the MIT Media Lab is gearing up to release a new version of Scratch designed to work on mobile devices. The team is also working on a way to integrate the physical world with Scratch using what they’re currently calling a “Scratch Pad.”

Writing Game for Setting Creativity in Motion

Designed by Liternauts for iOS, Android, Kindle, and Mac, the Writing Challenge allows students from ages 7 to 14 to enjoy writing in the guise of an engaging, interactive game.

Technology Support for Maker Communities

The SparkFun Community Partnership Program facilitates one-time collaborations between SparkFun and its community partners to support the work of makers in the field. In exchange for support through the donation of SparkFun hardware, community partners provide content for SparkFun’s channels to share their stories with the maker community at large.

Underwater Robotics Curriculum

WaterBotics, from the Stevens Institute of Technology, is an innovative, underwater robotics curriculum that can be used in traditional classroom settings or in afterschool and summer camp programs.

Challenge to Reduce Waste by Applying STEM Skills

Sponsored by Project Paradigm and the American Red Cross, the Paradigm Challenge is intended to inspire youth to use STEM skills, as well as kindness, creativity, and collaboration, to make a difference. The challenge is to generate new ideas to reduce waste in homes, schools, communities, and around the world.

Rock Videos with Underlying STREAM Concepts

Some teachers are using videos created by the rock band OK Go to teach art, math, and science. The band collaborated with the Playful Learning Lab at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota to create a free website for educators called OK Go Sandbox.
