Orienteering in Minecraft
Did you know you can teach almost anything with Minecraft!? It’s true! How about map skills you say?
Let’s go orienteering!
Getting an account and the software
You will need a Minecraft Java account for PC, MacOS, or Linux. (Similar to the Minecraft Education Edition, but does not interface with it.) There is a one time fee of $26.95.

When Minecraft opens, roll back to version 1.15.2. On the first screen click “Installations” at the top of the screen. Then click “+New.” Create a name for the installation like “VSTE 1.15.2.” Scroll to “release 1.15.2” Leave everything else as is and click the green create button at the bottom. Click your named installation in the list and click PLAY.
Choose multiplayer and add a server: Server Name: VSTE Place, and Server Address: minecraft.vste.org:11002 , then click Done. Now just click on VSTE Place from the ‘Play Multiplayer’ list. We will be waiting for you and teleport you to where we are.
Using Voice in Discord
We speak to each other while playing Minecraft because typing gets tedious. Discord is a voice and screen sharing application that will run on your computer or mobile device. Download and install it for free. Create an account. Many of us use the same name for our Discord account as our Minecraft account to keep things simple. Our channel address changes daily. We will paste it into Minecraft during the event. It helps us to be able to play Minecraft in one screen and listen via Discord with earbuds or headphones.
Searching for Treasure
We will take you through this slideshow quickly so you learn about following a map in Minecraft and then we will be off treasure hunting together!
