Lesson Plan for Media Literacy Week

Held in conjunction with UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Week, US Media Literacy Week (October 24–28) will celebrate one of the five components of media literacy’s definition of the day: Access (October 24), Analyze (October 25), Evaluate (October 26), Create (October 27), and Act (October 28).

 

CyberStart America Game Challenge

CyberStart America gives students in grades 9–12 free access to the world-renowned CyberStart game, in which students will tackle four unique bases, each focusing on offensive and defensive cybersecurity disciplines.

 

Guidelines for Integrating Tech into Lessons

Developed by a professor at University of Michigan, School of Education, the Triple E Framework addresses the desire of K–12 educators to bridge research on education technologies and teaching practice in the classroom. Research points out that effective technology integration begins with good instructional strategies.

Nominations Open! 2022 Outstanding Technology Teacher, Coach and Leader of the Year Award

VSTE will recognize and honor Virginia Educators, Technology Coaches and Leaders who are VSTE members (nominee not a member have them join here) and who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and leadership in implementing technology to improve education. Award recipients will be selected from a pool of nominations submitted by VSTE members from around Virginia.

Nominations will be accepted from October 12 -October 26. Nominations will be reviewed by the VSTE Board of Directors and past winners. Select nominators will be contacted by November 5 to provide additional evidence and documentation. Nominators are encouraged to work with the nominee to gather this additional information.

Decisions will be made prior to the VSTE Annual Conference. Award winners will be recognized during the opening general session at the annual conference. They are also provided with a complimentary conference registration and two nights of hotel accommodations for the annual conference. This year's conference will be held December 4-6, 2022, in Virginia Beach.

The Awards Committee uses the ISTE standards as the basis for judging the Outstanding Technology Coach awards. Please review the appropriate standards when preparing nomination materials. Nominees are rated solely using criteria identified in the rubric.

SPOTLIGHT! On Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, from September 15 to October 15, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States. The tradition began in 1968, when President Lyndon B. Johnson first issued a proclamation to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Week. Later, Congress passed a bill to extend the celebration to last an entire month. The bill was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1988, and National Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated every year since 1989.

 

Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum Destigmatizing Emotions

Five-time All-Star Cleveland Cavaliers player Kevin Love worked with educators and experts to develop a social and emotional learning curriculum, piloted it for two years, and is now offering the materials for free to high schools in the United States.

Inspiration is a mysterious thing. Who knows when or where it will strike. We’re fascinated by the catalysts for inspiration and how a simple “lightbulb” moment can lead to world-changing innovation. In this Bio-Inspiration YouTube series, the Chicago Council on Science and Technology (C2ST) looks at how inspiration can be found in the plants, animals, and phenomena all around us.
