SPOTLIGHT! On Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, from September 15 to October 15, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States. The tradition began in 1968, when President Lyndon B. Johnson first issued a proclamation to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Week. Later, Congress passed a bill to extend the celebration to last an entire month. The bill was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1988, and National Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated every year since 1989.

 

Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum Destigmatizing Emotions

Five-time All-Star Cleveland Cavaliers player Kevin Love worked with educators and experts to develop a social and emotional learning curriculum, piloted it for two years, and is now offering the materials for free to high schools in the United States.

Inspiration is a mysterious thing. Who knows when or where it will strike. We’re fascinated by the catalysts for inspiration and how a simple “lightbulb” moment can lead to world-changing innovation. In this Bio-Inspiration YouTube series, the Chicago Council on Science and Technology (C2ST) looks at how inspiration can be found in the plants, animals, and phenomena all around us.

Ken Shelton VSTE22 Keynote Speaker

Ken (He/Him/His) currently holds an M.A. in Education with a specialization in Educational Technology as well as New Media Design and Production. He has worked as an Educator for over 20 years and spent most of his classroom experience teaching technology at the Middle School level. As a part of his active involvement within the Educational Technology community, Ken is an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, and a Google Certified Innovator.

Ken has worked extensively at the policy level with a number of State Departments of Education, Ministries of Education, and non-profit organizations. Ken was appointed to the Education Technology Task Force formed by a previous California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Ken regularly gives keynotes, presentations, consults, and leads workshops, covering a wide variety of Educational Technology, Equity and Inclusion, Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist, Multimedia Literacy, Cultural Intelligence, Visual Storytelling, and Instructional Design topics. Ken is the International Society for Technology in Education Digital Equity Professional Learning Network 2018 Excellence Award winner. Ken is the International Society for Technology in Education 2022 Making IT Happen Award winner due to his extraordinary commitment, leadership, courage, and persistence in improving digital learning opportunities for students. Because of his extensive and broad impact, Ken has also been named by EdTech Magazine as an influencer to follow.

Seas the Day: Limited Time for Super Early Bird Pricing

Super Early Bird Registration for the VSTE Annual Conference ends on September 30th.

 

Super Early Bird is the best pricing for conference attendees but the savings will not last. Prices increase on October 1st for the full conference, multi-day, and single-day registrations for the annual conference.

Sept. 14th Conference Proposal Deadline Approaches

VSTE 2022 Presentation Proposals Deadline Sept. 14th

The countdown is on for presenters willing to share their experiences and expertise with the attendees. Presentations are vital to our conference. That is why we want you to Seas the Day to tell the story of your Dive into Learning. We encourage presenters to be part of the full conference experience and we are able to offer presenters a discounted registration rate. We have detailed information about the types of presentations and the general conference schedule on the conference website.
