April Education Committee Webinar: Wakelet

Join VSTE's Education Committee on April 28, 2022, at 7 PM, for Improving Classroom Organization,  Collaboration, and Creativity  with Wakelet with Tisha Poncio, Digital Learning Specialist, from Wakelet.

Wakelet is a solution for teachers students, parents, and administrators as an easy and safe way to collaborate, communicate, and create while engaging students K-12. Users can organize content, create lesson plans, implement digital citizenship skills, and showcase school activities with stakeholders! This session will cover an intro to Wakelet, basic account setup, an overview of student accounts, and using Wakelet for meaningful integration in any learning environment.

This webinar is free but registration is required.

Authentic Opportunities to Learn and Do Mathematics

With the Math in the Media program from the American Mathematical Society (AMS), teachers can stay up-to-date with math in current events and get ideas for classroom activities. The site has two components: Digests of Math in the Media and Tony Phillips’ Take on Math in the Media.

Outreach to Engage Talented Underrepresented Students in STEM

The Spirit of Ramanujan STEM Talent Initiative is an outreach effort to find and encourage undiscovered science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) talent in the United States and worldwide. The program is intended for promising individuals who excel in the STEM subjects but lack traditional institutional support through grants and mentorship opportunities.

App Harnessing the Power of Citizen Scientists

The Meteor Counter, a free iPhone app developed by NASA, is designed to harness the power of citizen scientists to keep track of meteoroids. Using the app, people from all walks of life can help NASA scientists discover new meteor showers, pinpoint comet debris streams, and map the distribution of meteoroids around Earth’s orbit.

This requires a different perspective and approach for developing relationships with students and engaging them in the learning process. Simultaneously, technology impacts both our society in general, as well as the classroom experience, in ways that we have never experienced before. How might one inform the other?
